The Grand Finale

world on a finger

I have loved doing this blog over the past couple of months but I have to move to more pressing issues in my life and career. In trying to Change the World I need to begin taking more action which is what I plan to do.

I am going to have this post up for a few days with a final message.

Look outside yourself. I have written many posts on being introverted or extroverted and various charities, groups and organizations; about character and humanity; about people and the way the world interacts with you and you the world.

My idea I want to present to you now is to see the extroversion inside of you (isn’t that a contradictory statement). I have said before that there are people who can travel the world and be in incredible places and experiences and not even look outside themselves.

The reason I love to stare up at the stars or watch the sun rise and set is because it reminds me of my place in the universe. I am nothing without those around me as far reaching as the other side of the world. A person is nothing without other people. To look only within yourself is to not except the power and importance of those who you may not even know.

To live solely for yourself is vain but to live for yourself and the world is empowering. Helping those outside your own comfort zone actually has benefits for all, including yourself. The Golden Rule is called golden for a reason.

As I sit here outside by a fire, after having a long-and-great conversation with an old friend who just left (came to keep me company while I am sick), I remember the most important aspect of my life is other people. Without them life would be meaningless so to devote myself to others brings me great and fulfilling Life Meaning.

I say tomorrow, you wake up and do your usual routine. Drink your coffee; tread mill for fifteen minutes; whatever. But then during that day I want you to try something. Try following an old rule of the Boy Scouts and do a good deed for someone else in that day. A good turn for someone else in the long run is a good turn for the world and yourself.

It does not have to be a great and powerful showing to your fellow man but a simple gesture of selflessness can bring a great change if done enough by enough people. It could even Change the World.

To keep up with me in the future head over to my personal blog WarrenGreeley.com/Blog to read my future posts. They are on topics of business, writing, and generally trying to change the world.

Thank you for reading. Thanks for caring.

agression at it’s most awesome

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

My friend Steve told me about this one so I looked it up. This really has no lesson to learn behind it except it is really awesome. So If your seeking my all knowing wisdom you can skip this post… actually you should really watch this.

Set up for this vid is that Andy Roddick, tennis pro, was angered by a bad call by the judge. Unfortunately in tennis once a call is made it is not changed. Now Roddick thinks, “I’ll show him!” Enjoy.

we have a map shortage! (aparently)

I got a laugh out of this one even though I feel bad for the poor girl. Now she is subjected to blogs like my own and ones who will be less simpathetic than myself. None the less this is a great example of acting (in this case talking) without thought; something I wrote about a little while back.

Sorry lass. All I can say is that there are always better days around the corner.

The fold

This week for music friday we are gonna get emotional with Hey Rebekah by The Fold. Get the tissue box ready.

Well, hey Rebekah, it’s not only in your mind.
But it takes something unusual to make it happen.
The other night I had the strangest dream,
I woke up under the spotlight where you should be.
It’s so hard to shake the thought of it still,
Lasting impression on my windowsill.

It’s hard to explain but I’d like to my friend
When you live in a house but you sleep in a van
And you realize one day, seasons have changed
Since you’ve last seen home.

Breathe in, breathe out,
Know that you’re alive.
Breathe in, breathe out,
Know that you’re alive

Well, hey Rebekah, it’s not only in your mind.
But it takes something unusual to make it happen.
When we make ourselves work overtime,
That’s when fate will find you dear
And remind you that it never is too late.

Story goes I lay in revery
I woke up under the spotlight where you should be.
It’s so hard to shake the thought of it still,
Lasting impression on my windowsill.

It’s hard to explain but I’d like to my friend.
When you live in a house but you sleep in a van.
And you realize one day the choices you’ve made
Have taken you where you don’t wanna go.

Breathe in, breathe out.
Know that you’re alive.
Breathe in, breathe out.
Know that you’re alive.

Well, hey Rebekah, it’s not only in your mind
But it takes something unusual to make it happen.
When we make ourselves work overtime,
That’s when fate will find you dear,
And your heart will be reminded that it’s not too late.
You know it never is too late.
As long as you are breathing, honey.

Breathe in, breathe out,
Know that you’re alive.
Breathe in, breathe out,
Know that you’re alive.
Breathe in, breathe out,
Know that you’re alive.
Breathe in, breathe out,
Know that you’re alive.

Hey Rebekah, it’s not only in your mind…

Take a moment to wipe your eyes before you continue reading. Ok, now then. Why this song? For one I am kind of a sensitive guy (proud of it) and my music tastes reflect that but mainly because again there is a great message I take from this song.

Breath in, breath out, Know that your Alive. Understand that no matter how bad things are in your life that things will get better eventually as long as you still have breath in your lungs. Understanding this can give you a hope that otherwise would not be there. I have personally had experience in my life with suicidal people and what I try to press as much as I can is that things will get better. Pain doesn’t last forever if you do not allow it to.

So next time you are feeling down, depressed, vulnerable; just sit down and take a deep breath to remind yourself that it means life will go on and better days are ahead.

music fridays | volume 1

I love music and have decided to share some of the reasons I do. You can take so much insight from music. No matter the genre you can learn something so from now on fridays will be music fridays on blog for squares.

Snow Patrol

The first showcase this week will be Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. (This is one of my favorite songs)

Check out these bad ass lyrics…

We’ll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don’t need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don’t quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They’re not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life

Let’s waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we’re told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that’s bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they’re all I can see

I don’t know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Just forget the world and lay here with me. Sometimes we are so caught up in things we forget to take the time to not do anything which can be more beneficial sometimes. Instead of planning your day to rush around and finish everything you can in that short amount of time just leave some time open to lay around with someone you love or just by your self and chase the cars around your head.

have some fun with the name game

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

The past couple of posts have been my insomnia ranting so I thought I would lighten it up a bit with a name game. This is something I have been doing for fun since about my freshmen year of high school. I was reminded of it when I was talking to these kids I know in my neighborhood and I’ll give you the same tips I gave them.

The fact of the matter is that your name is your own. So really it can be whatever you would like it to be. In my freshmen year of high school my math teacher asked us write down the nick name we wanted to be called. Like for instance if your name is Nicole and you want to be called Nicky. Ok, easy enough… But way to boring for me. So I decided to spice it up a bit. I wrote down the name “Jimmy.” If you have ever read my author page then you know my name is not even remotely close to Jimmy, Jim or James. It’s Warren.

Sure enough the next day, when asked a question I raised my hand and the teacher said “Yes Jimmy?” Ha, it worked! I was giddy as a school boy. Well, I was a school boy but you get the picture. For the rest of the year I was known in 5th period as Jimmy. Those who had never met me called me that and those who did know me laughed everytime it was said. It became a good time for everyone.

Flash forward the the present. I am all grown up now and still having fun. My buddy Ron and I frequent a restaurant called Panera Bread to discuss our businesses, build our ideas, and sometimes just brag to each other. When ordering we are asked to give our names so they can be called out if we don’t respond to the pager. I like the name Warren but names like Bear, Muhammad, and Akbhar are so much more comical, especially when they try to spell and then pronounce it.

Then there is alway putting a new spin on the name game. Another good one is to use your name and spell it differently. I always like to tell the panera employees when asked that I am Warren… with an X. Some laugh. Some just stare blankly.

My name is my own as is your’s your own. You can put your own spin on the Name Game just to make others laugh, enjoy yourself, and be remembered. Believe me. People remember Akbahar or Warren with an X better than just my name as is. Try it out. If nothing else it will be a story you can tell and get a laugh out of.

under the rediculous humor

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Hollywood is criticized quite often about the utter crap that comes out in the box office and on television. Well for the most part - yes, it is crap. But in many films and television shows there is an underlying truth about the world that is subtle but can be found if it is looked for.

In one of my personal favorites, South Park, kids of much to young an age to know some of the things they do, go on adventures in perversion and ridiculous concept. But normally underneath all the “You killed Kenny” and the “Screw you guys - I’m going home,” there is a message to nearly every episode for the more than a decade of air time it now has under it’s belt. Some of these lessons are pretty profound like respecting other’s views and the importance of friendship.

In the movie industry, films like “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” have underlying demonstrations of stereotypes and “Superbad” shows women are something to be respected (and that cops can have fun too).

When watching a movie most view the surface which is the seemingly senseless and stupid slapstick or raunchy comedy but tend to forget to look for the underlying lesson that can be learned by such an out there situation that the overly audacious characters face.

Next time you are at a movie, try to look for what lies beneath the hilarity and maybe you may come out less offended and more fulfilled.

Got any other crazy movies I didn’t mention that have awesome meanings behind them? Leave a comment and let me know.
