set on autopilot

Have you ever wondered why people (meaning you too) do stupid things while driving, working, speaking, etc.? I think I have come up with a good reason why this occurs. I recently came to the conclusion that people spend about 95% of their day set on human autopilot.

This is quite a problem that can become more and more disastrous over time as the autopilot has more impact on your actions. We all are creatures of habit and so our brains develop a personal autopilot to get us through the day. When we go through the same routine we no longer have to think when we act. The problem with this is that variances happen within this routine that the autopilot is not prepared for.

But there is a remedy to this affliction we all share…

It’s very simple. Do something different every day. If you make it a conscious effort to change something in your daily routine then the autopilot may no longer be in control and you may naturally think before you act or react. Just try it out. If it works then leave me a comment letting me know. If it doesn’t well then what do you have to lose?
